Homemaking
Installation Coming Spring 2026
What is it, to turn a house into a home? Drawing inspiration from Paul B. Preciado’s book An Apartment on Uranus and Gaston Bachelard’s seminal exploration of the home space, The Poetics of Space, Homemaking invites the visitor to join into the creation of a home space. The installation begins with the artist in an empty house. Over the course of the work of art, each visitor brings with them an object to make the home, of any size. The house becomes a home - or maybe not, maybe something else entirely - through this exploration of homemaking.
A secondary piece emerges from this work through the videoing over the course of the installation of each room as it progresses from empty to “made.” The different angles and visuals are put together into a 360 degree visual experience inspired by Ragnar Kjartansson’s “The Visitors” and Bachelard’s commentary on the home as a place for daydreams. Visitors to this secondary installation, suitable for an exhibition space, are able to step into the daydream of homemaking, and experience what comes to their own sense of home in the silent reverie of the making of this home of my daydreams.
